Young Carers raise money for Lucy’s Day Out
A group of Wiltshire Young Carers have been taking part in a Social Action Project funded by Wiltshire Council’s Devizes Area Board.
27 Young Carers aged 13-18 chose to raise money for ‘Lucy’s Days Out’ a charity that supports children with life limiting illnesses to have a family day out.
They spent eight sessions deciding which charity to support, organising an activity, learning about risk assessments and session plans and finally completing their chosen challenge. During this time they were asked if they would like to help improve the grounds at West Lavington Village Hall as part of a volunteering opportunity. They dug over flower beds, painted benches, cleared woodland and took down an old shed.
They finally completed their fund raiser, which was a three mile challenge that consisted of five different activities they had to do over the distance, and those who had joined the group for the first time, continued to clear the grounds around the village hall. All the young carers enjoyed the day and raised £87.00 for ‘Lucy’s Days Out’.
They also chose to go for a three course Christmas meal for their reward trip, which they all enjoyed.
